⚖️ Legal System & Contracts
The TRNC legal system is based on British Common Law, heavily influenced by Turkish civil law.
📜 Contract Law
Real estate and rental agreements are usually bilingual (Turkish–English) and should be reviewed by a registered lawyer. Notarization is standard practice and legally protective.
🤝 Diplomatic Status
The TRNC is officially recognized only by Turkey, but functional international ties exist.
🏛️ Foreign Representation
Turkey maintains an embassy in Nicosia and several consulates. Countries like Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Gambia maintain informal ties. Some Western nations (e.g. UK, Germany) offer consular support via their embassies in South Cyprus.
🚧 UN Presence & the Green Line
The UN buffer zone (Green Line) is monitored by peacekeeping forces. Crossings are regulated but open to EU and many other nationals. Limited trade across the divide is permitted under special EU mechanisms.
