TDP leader Zeki Çeler has called for a permanent state system to identify and meet the needs of children requiring special education, following a meeting with families at Famagusta Special Education School.
According to reports by Halkın Sesi and Yenidüzen, both citing a TDP statement, Çeler met families of children attending the school to hear their concerns and requests.
Çeler said access to education for children with special needs should involve more than school attendance. He said services such as guidance teachers, speech and language therapists and safe transport should be available in line with each child’s needs and development.
He argued that this support should not depend on a family’s financial means. Çeler called for a lasting state-run structure that assesses needs in advance and delivers the required services.
He also said shortcomings in special education could not be deferred.
