Cypfruvex has opened an integrated cold-storage complex in Güzelyurt with a combined storage capacity of 15,000 tonnes, according to the Prime Ministry and Halkın Sesi.
The 7,661-square-metre site includes six frozen-storage rooms with a total capacity of 5,000 tonnes and 12 cold-storage rooms able to hold a further 10,000 tonnes. It also has two blast-freezing rooms and a solar-energy system.
Halkın Sesi reported that the investment was financed by Turkey and implemented with coordination from the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), at an estimated cost of about $10.4 million. Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also said at the opening that the project had been financed by Turkey and coordinated by TOBB.
Üstel said the facility was intended to limit product losses, help retain product quality and give producers greater flexibility over when they sell. He said it would expand Cypfruvex’s processing, storage and export capacity, including for citrus and other agricultural products.
The opening ceremony was attended by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Prime Minister Üstel and other officials, Halkın Sesi reported.
