A documentary about dairy producer Gülgün Betmezoğlu was screened at the Özle Türkel Social Activity Centre in Değirmenlik on Friday, 23 October, with attendees giving her a standing ovation, according to Yeniduzen.
The film was produced by the Cyprus Women’s Stories Association (KÖDER), with sponsorship from Değirmenlik-Akıncılar Municipality. The municipality hosted the screening, which reportedly drew strong interest from local residents and filled the venue.
It follows Betmezoğlu’s family life and the development of her Gülgün Süt Ürünleri business in Düzova. Interviews and footage involving family members, friends and employees are used to document the story of the producer and the business.
Following the screening, KÖDER President Şenay Ekingen said the association had completed 33 documentaries and continued to produce work aimed at preserving collective memory.
Former Supreme Court President Narin Ferdi Şefik said Betmezoğlu’s achievements showed the importance of work, determination and confidence. Şefik also praised KÖDER for bringing attention to women’s achievements.
Değirmenlik-Akıncılar Mayor Ali Karavezirler thanked KÖDER for recording Betmezoğlu’s story and said municipal support for bringing women’s stories to the public would continue.
A reception featuring products from Gülgün Süt Ürünleri was held after the screening.
