A documentary about Turkish Cypriot photographer İsmail Gökçe is being prepared, with filming under way in cities across Cyprus and Turkey, according to Halkın Sesi.
Titled Gerçeğin Peşinde, the film is set to explore Gökçe’s photography career, his artistic world and his personal connection to the places where he has lived. The project will also examine the stories and context surrounding his images.
Director Seyed Adel Rahmati is leading the documentary, while Emre Oskay is listed as its producer. The production is expected to draw on Gökçe’s photographs and archive materials, alongside interviews with figures linked to his life and artistic work.
Halkın Sesi reported that those featured so far include filmmaker Derviş Zaim; war photographer and journalist Coşkun Aral; photographer and researcher Kadir Kaba; photographer and academic Prof. Mustafa Bilge Satkın; and artist Ahmet Güneştekin.
Rather than following a conventional biography format, the production aims to present a more personal view of Gökçe’s life and photography. It will approach themes including memory, time, art and place through locations, people and histories in Cyprus and Istanbul.
