Dr Halil Onalt Dikmen Health Center opens in Dikmen

The Dr Halil Onalt Dikmen Health Center has officially opened in Dikmen, according to the TRNC Prime Ministry and Halkın Sesi.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel attended the opening ceremony. The facility is named after Turkish Cypriot doctor Halil Onalt, who died in Istanbul in 2021 after contracting coronavirus, Halkın Sesi reported.

Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek said the centre would serve the surrounding area through a modern facility and specialist staff. He said investments in health centres and clinics across North Cyprus were intended to ease overcrowding at Lefkoşa Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital.

Dinçyürek also said the government planned to open four major health facilities within two weeks, including the State Laboratory the following week. He said Güzelyurt and Girne hospitals would enter service soon, while İskele Hospital was expected to be completed by the end of the year and the New Lefkoşa State Hospital in 2027.

Those timelines were presented by the minister at the ceremony and were not independently verified by News24.

The minister further said that €20 million had been invested in healthcare technology and that 20 fully equipped ambulances had been added to the fleet. He announced plans for home healthcare services across the island for older people and people with disabilities.

Üstel said the administration had delivered public projects through its own resources and, in many cases, protocols with Turkey. He cited hospitals in Güzelyurt, Lefkoşa and Girne, alongside health centres in several municipalities, Maraş and Değirmenlik, as part of the wider health investment programme.
