EMU students present technology internship projects at Asbank

Women students from Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) have presented technology projects developed during an internship programme run with Asbank, according to Halkın Sesi.

The programme involves EMU’s TechGirls Committee and is aimed at women studying information technology and related disciplines. It is intended to promote equal opportunity in the field and support women’s participation in the technology sector.

Students presented their work at an event at Asbank’s headquarters. Their team projects covered artificial-intelligence applications, robotic process automation, React-based application development and children’s banking.

The internship programme began in 2025 and has continued under a cooperation protocol signed by EMU and Asbank in 2026, the report said. The protocol offers women students placements at the bank, allowing them to apply academic learning in a workplace and gain experience in the information-technology sector.

Participants worked in a business environment while developing and presenting projects as teams. Asbank General Manager Çağatay Karip also addressed students on current banking developments and the future of the sector in the age of artificial intelligence.

EMU Academic Affairs Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe said university-industry partnerships could help students’ professional development by giving them exposure to workplaces and skills aligned with employers’ needs.

The EMU TechGirls Committee said gender inequality becomes more pronounced between entry-level and management roles in information technology and related technology careers. It said cooperation between universities and industry was important to efforts to provide equal opportunity.

Representatives of Asbank, EMU and the TechGirls Committee attended the project presentation, including Karip and Karatepe.
