Eastern Mediterranean University’s KENT-AG Urban Research and Development Centre prepared and implemented the environmental design and landscaping project for the Rauf Raif Denktaş Mausoleum and Cumhuriyet Park, according to a university statement reported by Halkın Sesi.
The project reshaped the area around the mausoleum and park through what the university described as a contemporary landscaping approach. Academics and specialists from several disciplines contributed to both the preparation and implementation stages, it said.
Prof. Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara was part of the design team. Associate Professor Nevter Zafer Cömert coordinated the project and also served on the design team.
Hoşkara said the work was intended to protect the site’s historical and symbolic importance while providing an accessible and sustainable public space suited to present-day needs. Cömert said the team had sought to create a durable park for public use that was appropriate to the significance of Rauf Raif Denktaş and North Cyprus.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç described the project as an example of applying the university’s academic expertise for social benefit.
