Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) will host the next workshop in an emerging cooperation process between research bodies at five North Cyprus universities, Yeniduzen reported, citing information from the university.
EMU was represented at a meeting on the higher-education research-centre ecosystem, hosted by Near East University’s Centre of Excellence in Nicosia. More than 50 representatives from research centres, centres of excellence and institutes attended, according to Yeniduzen.
The meeting examined universities’ research capacity, priority fields, examples of good practice and structural challenges. Participants worked through five round-table discussions focused on a common research vision, available resources and potential areas for cooperation.
EMU moderated sessions on TÜBİTAK, the Turkish Health Institutes Presidency and international programmes, the report said. The discussions identified several proposed priorities: preparing inventories of university infrastructure and expertise, developing joint research calls, supporting researcher mobility and coordinating applications to funding programmes.
A working group with representatives from each of the five universities was formed to take the process forward through regular meetings and develop it into a permanent cooperation platform. Participants also agreed unanimously that EMU would host the next workshop, Yeniduzen reported.
Speakers at the meeting said North Cyprus universities had expanded their international visibility and built capacity for quality scientific work. They argued that greater collaboration could help turn that capacity into joint projects and externally funded research, according to the report.
