Gazimağusa Municipality is moving ahead with a project to create a public park and walking routes around the Ayluga wetland, according to reports citing the municipality.
The work is planned to start beside the social housing near the rear entrance of Eastern Mediterranean University and continue along the wetland. The development will include walking and cycling paths intended to provide residents with a recreational area in a natural setting.
The municipality says the project is also intended to protect Ayluga’s biodiversity and fauna while creating a sustainable public space accessible to everyone. Mayor Süleyman Uluçay said the routes had been designed to fit the area’s natural character and that protecting the wetland’s natural assets was a priority.
The project has been put out to open tender. Construction is expected to take eight months, according to the municipality’s announcement.
