The first six courts in Gazimağusa’s planned tennis complex have been completed, Gazimağusa Municipality said in information reported by Halkın Sesi.
The completed phase includes ground works, concrete court bases, acrylic playing surfaces approved by the International Tennis Federation, fencing, pedestrian walkways and landscaping, the municipality said.
The project is being undertaken by Gazimağusa Municipality, the Gazimağusa Municipality Tennis Club and the TRNC Tennis Federation.
According to the municipality, the first event planned for the new courts is Juniors Bowl 2026. It said the tournament is expected to bring together young tennis players from 17 countries.
Further stages are planned under a contract between the municipality and Binbir Construction Ltd. The proposed additions include a centre court, padel courts, beach-tennis courts, a café and a service building.
Mayor Süleyman Uluçay described the development as a long-term investment in the city’s sports infrastructure. He said the municipality would continue efforts aimed at associating Gazimağusa more closely with sport, young people and international events.
