Romania won every listed category at the World Foot Tennis Championship held in Famagusta, according to a report by Halkın Sesi.
The five-day tournament, organised by the International Foot Tennis Federation (FIFTA) in cooperation with the TRNC Foot Tennis Federation, concluded with its final matches at Eastern Mediterranean University’s Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Hall.
Halkın Sesi reported that Romania took the titles in the women’s singles, doubles and triples competitions, along with the youth, under-21 and senior categories. Denmark and Iraq were among the teams praised for their performances, while France received the tournament’s sportsmanship award.
FIFTA and TRNC Foot Tennis Federation president Şevket Songur said work would begin to expand foot tennis internationally in line with a FIFTA decision. He also thanked the Prime Ministry, the Sports Department, Famagusta Municipality and Eastern Mediterranean University for supporting the event.
Eastern Mediterranean University Rector Hasan Kılıç said he hoped foot tennis would eventually be included in the Olympic Games and that local players could compete at that level.
