Famagusta Municipality plans to reverse the direction of the existing one-way traffic flow in the Laguna area under a new arrangement intended to ease congestion and improve road safety.

According to the municipality, reported by Yeniduzen and Halkın Sesi, the coastal road will remain closed to vehicle traffic. The change is expected to be introduced this week once traffic signs and directional markings have been installed.

The scheme will begin as a trial, with traffic conditions to be reviewed afterwards. The municipality said further adjustments could follow if required.

The arrangement was recommended by the Expanded Traffic Commission and unanimously approved by the Municipal Council at its 7 January 2026 meeting, the municipality said.

Its Public Works Unit is also to make arrangements intended to allow large vehicles to pass through the area safely. Drivers have been asked to follow the new signs and direction markers.
