Lefkoşa primary pupils attend ‘Peter and the Wolf’ concerts

Primary school pupils from eight schools in the Lefkoşa area attended performances of Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf at the Presidential Blue Hall on 8 and 9 October, Yeniduzen reported.

The concerts were organised by the KKTC Presidential Symphony Orchestra and the Education Ministry for fourth- and fifth-grade pupils. The programme used orchestral instruments to represent characters in the story, with the aim of introducing children to classical music and the sounds of an orchestra.

President Tufan Erhürman attended the second day of performances and watched the event alongside students, according to Yeniduzen.

The participating schools were 9 Eylül, Necati Taşkın, Gönyeli, Şht. Doğan Ahmet, Gelibolu, Alayköy, Çağlayan Cumhuriyet and Dr. Suat Günsel primary schools.

Ali Hoca conducted the orchestra, while İzel Seylani narrated the work. Türkiye İş Bankası was the main sponsor and KKTC Telsim supported the programme as communications sponsor.

Yeniduzen reported that organisers intend to take the event to other districts.
