New Esentepe Primary School building opens

A new building for Esentepe Primary School was opened in the Çatalköy–Esentepe area on 5 October, according to the Civil Defence Organization and Yeniduzen.

The opening ceremony was attended by Civil Defence Organization President Hakan Balaban, Education Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu and Çatalköy–Esentepe Mayor Ceyhun Kırok. Teachers, pupils and invited guests were also present, the Civil Defence Organization said.

The school was developed through cooperation between the Education Ministry and Çatalköy–Esentepe Municipality, Yeniduzen reported. Kırok said the project took 13 months to complete and that the new building has 14 classrooms.

He said the municipality had allocated about TL 40 million for the primary school in its 2025–26 budget. Kırok also said the building includes infrastructure and technology intended to support teaching and learning.

Yeniduzen reported that statements by Çavuşoğlu, Kırok and Ahmet Özçaylı at the ceremony said the project had also received support from benefactors and businesspeople.

Çavuşoğlu said central and local authorities had put political differences aside to complete the school for the area’s residents and children. CTP leader Sıla Usar İncirli similarly highlighted the importance of cooperation between central government, local government and benefactors for education.

The Civil Defence Organization said the new building is intended to give pupils in the area access to more modern educational facilities.

Kırok said the municipality plans to continue investing in education, healthcare and social facilities for children. He named a middle school and a vocational high school among its future aims for the area.
