A new State Laboratory service building has opened in Nicosia. According to Halkın Sesi, the facility will provide public-health testing, food-safety analysis, import and export procedures, and forensic analysis.
The newspaper reported that the laboratory had operated at reduced capacity for an extended period after a fire damaged its previous building in 2016. The new facility was opened at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Assembly President Ziya Öztürkler, Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek, Finance Minister Özdemir Berova and Türkiye’s ambassador to Nicosia, Ali Murat Başçeri.
According to Halkın Sesi, the development covers 2,212 square metres and involved an investment of TL 186 million.
Üstel said at the opening that the laboratory was equipped with modern devices and had been built to world standards. He also said the facility would serve all sections of society. These were statements by the prime minister about the new building.
Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek had previously said the laboratory would support public health and the economy, including producers, trade, imports and exports.
