The TRNC Gymnastics Federation plans to activate aerobic gymnastics in North Cyprus as part of efforts to expand and diversify the sport, Halkın Sesi reported.
The federation said it is bringing Gürkan Er, the Turkish national aerobic gymnastics team coach and a lecturer, to North Cyprus. It also said Er was among the coaches who played an important role in developing Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı, whom the federation described as a world and European champion.
An Aerobic Gymnastics Introduction Seminar is scheduled for Thursday at 19:30 at the TRNC Gymnastics Federation. The federation said the seminar will introduce coaches to the discipline and help identify talented children.
The federation said it aims to develop athletes capable of competing in Turkey and international competitions. It also stated that its broader target is to reach 10,000 children.
The planned initiative focuses on introducing the discipline to coaches, bringing in specialist coaching expertise and identifying young participants, according to the federation.
