North Nicosia school community stages breast cancer awareness walk

Students, teachers and the school band from Şehit Tuncer Primary School took part in a breast cancer awareness walk through North Nicosia, Halkın Sesi reported.

The event was held along Mehmet Akif Caddesi, also known as Dereboyu, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed from 1 to 31 October. The school said the activity was intended to improve students’ awareness and draw attention to the importance of early diagnosis in the community.

The walk began at Şehit Tuncer Primary School and continued along Mehmet Akif Caddesi. Participants passed Kumsal Park before returning to the school.

Third-, fourth- and fifth-grade pupils joined teachers and the school band for the event. According to the report, participants wore pink and used a slogan urging people not to fear cancer but to fear delaying action. Local residents applauded, while drivers showed support by sounding their horns.

School principal Özle Işıman said the activity aimed to raise awareness among students and emphasise the value of early breast cancer diagnosis.
