North Cyprus Ombudsman İlkan Varol has submitted the institution’s 41st-period report to parliament speaker Ziya Öztürkler, covering work carried out from 1 January to 30 June, Halkın Sesi reported.

Varol said the report includes six investigations that were completed and published, alongside 21 complaints or applications received by the institution.

According to the report details provided by Varol, two complaints were withdrawn after the relevant administration amended the disputed procedures in favour of the applicants. Two other complaints were sent to the appropriate authorities under a provision of the Ombudsman Law.

Varol also said the Ombudsman’s office gave legal information to 21 citizens and contacted the administration in cases where the subject of an application fell outside the institution’s legal remit.

He described the Ombudsman as a constitutional body for people who believe they have been harmed by administrative acts or procedures, and said it works independently and impartially under the Constitution.

Öztürkler received Varol and wished him success in his duties, the newspaper reported.
