Conservation and restoration work has been completed at the Panagia Apsinthiotissa Monastery in Kaynakköy and Agios Prokopios Church in Sınırüstü, Yeniduzen reported.

The projects included structural reinforcement, repairs and improvements to the surrounding areas. They were implemented by the United Nations Development Programme with funding from the European Union.

Technical visits were held at both historic sites after work that began approximately 10 months earlier was completed. UNDP architect Hakan Gökberk gave participants a technical presentation on the completed work.

Ali Tuncay, the Turkish Cypriot co-chair of the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee, said the committee was continuing efforts to protect shared cultural heritage across Cyprus and pass it on to future generations.

Tuncay also said the restoration project for Nicosia’s Ömeriye Mosque had been put out to tender. Preparations were continuing for projects at Kertikli Hamam in Famagusta, Tanti’s Hamam in Nicosia and a historic Ottoman mansion in Değirmenlik, according to the report.

He added that conservation work at the Gilan Mosque in Limassol had recently been completed, while maintenance and conservation work had begun at 10 cemeteries in the same area.
