Türkiye AirBadminton squad trains in Nicosia before Athens championships

Türkiye’s senior AirBadminton national team is holding a training camp in North Cyprus ahead of the European AirBadminton Championships in Athens, Halkın Sesi reported.

The camp runs from 4 to 13 October and brings together eight athletes from Türkiye and four players from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus national team. The European Championships are scheduled to take place in Athens from 14 to 18 October.

During a programme at Near East University in Nicosia, the team trained at the university’s newly completed sports complex. The camp is being overseen by North Cyprus national-team coach Seymen Deniz, Türkiye coach Özge Ergan, administrator Ayhan Ağsu and Türkiye AirBadminton official Fırat Deniz, according to the report.

The Turkish side had also prepared in North Cyprus before the International AirBadminton Championship held in Bulgaria on 24-26 July, where it won two gold medals, Halkın Sesi reported.

Following the camp, Türkiye is due to travel to Athens to compete at the European Championships. The athletes’ university programme also included visits to the Cyprus Car Museum, NEU Event Park and the Nicosia Museum.

Near East University Sports Facilities official Ömer Faris said he hoped the North Cyprus camp would again prove beneficial for the team.
