The North Cyprus Volleyball Federation has raised concerns about a shortage of indoor sports halls as its 2026-27 programme begins, with federation president Enver Kaya saying the problem is particularly acute in Lefkoşa and Mağusa.
Halkın Sesi reported that 20 clubs and 73 teams will take part across nine categories this season. Six clubs have joined the federation ahead of the new campaign, according to the report.
Kaya said the limited number of available halls was creating serious difficulties for arranging matches and for clubs planning training sessions. He called on state authorities to address the shortage, arguing that additional facilities are needed to support youth participation and volleyball's continued development.
The new league season opened with four U17 Girls League matches in Groups B and C. In Lefkoşa, EKB beat LVA 3-1, while TED defeated MGSK 3-0. In Mağusa, ANKA won 3-0 against Şahlanspor and GMBÇS overcame MSA 3-1.
EKB, TED, ANKA and GMBÇS each ended the opening week on three points. League matches are due to continue in Girne.
