Environmental volunteers collected 11 sacks of waste from the Glapsides wetland in Famagusta, according to reports by Halkın Sesi and Yenidüzen.
The cleanup was organised by Her Daim Doğa Dostları Derneği and the Cyprus Wetlands Society. Halkın Sesi reported that Famagusta Municipality and Oza Kahve provided logistical support.
Yusuf Şentuğ, president of the Her Daim Doğa Dostları group, said carelessly discarded rubbish damages ecosystems. He described Glapsides as a stopping point for migratory birds, a habitat for endemic plants and an important site for the region’s biodiversity.
Şentuğ also linked the protection of clean wetlands to Famagusta’s natural appeal and tourism potential. He called on both local authorities and the public to help safeguard wetlands and take stronger action to prevent further pollution.
