Wetland protection event planned in Gazimağusa on Saturday

An environmental awareness event is scheduled for Saturday, 26 September, at the Yenişehir Wetland Observation Point in Gazimağusa, according to Halkın Sesi.

The event is set to begin at 7am and is being organised jointly by the Her Daim Nature Friends Group, the Cyprus Wetlands Community and the Karpaz Friends Association. Its stated aims include supporting the protection of the Yenişehir/Gülseren Wetland, drawing attention to plastic pollution and encouraging wider environmental awareness.

Yusuf Şentuğ, president of the Her Daim Nature Friends Group, said wetlands are important for biodiversity and migratory birds. He also said they can help reduce flood risk in Gazimağusa during periods of heavy rainfall by absorbing excess water.

Şentuğ invited nature enthusiasts, environmental organisations, media workers and members of the public to support the gathering.
