Cyprus’ meteorological department has issued a yellow warning for isolated but heavy thunderstorms from 9pm on Thursday, September 17, until 5pm on Friday, according to Cyprus Mail.
An area of low pressure is expected to bring thicker cloud, rain and thunderstorms across the island. The weather system is forecast to affect western and northern areas first before extending to other locations.
Cyprus Mail reported that rainfall during storms could reach between 35mm and 55mm an hour. Hail is also possible, while winds may reach force 8 on the Beaufort scale.
Temperatures are forecast to fall below seasonal averages on Friday, then rise gradually over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mainly clear, though isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms may develop in mountainous areas.
